The Peninsula Home-Based Business Network is pleased to announce that the 5th annual Home-Based Business Conference will return on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will be offered virtually via Zoom on the Whova event platform.

This unique event features conference sessions and specialty breakout tracks focused on topics relevant to all stages and types of home-based businesses, including traditional, franchise and direct & network marketing. Attendees will also discover local resources for their businesses from among 11 sponsors. Many of this year’s speakers will focus on marketing strategies and tactics, as well as ways home-based business owners can protect their organizations. Each ticket costs $40 and offers the ability to watch and re-watch the sessions recorded virtually.

The opening speaker will be Allison Moore, a comedian and home-based business owner from Hampton, VA, who has opened for comedians such as Sinbad and J Anthony Brown. The lunch keynote speaker will be Shanna Kabatznick founder of FABWOMEN, who will discuss networking success strategies. More speaker information can be found on the event website.

The Whova platform for virtual conferences offers the opportunity for all attendees and exhibitors to fill out a profile page to promote their company and products, chat with other attendees and access the content and sessions after the event.  Before and during sessions, attendees can view speaker profiles, ask questions and download materials provided by speakers and exhibitors.

New this year, the organization is excited to announce that T-Mobile has joined as a sponsor and is offering a vacation raffle as part of their sponsorship. The “Getaway Your Way” sweepstakes winner will be selected from all conference attendees who click to enter a drawing for the $2,000 Delta Airlines travel voucher.

“We are thrilled to continue to grow the Home-Based Business Conference in 2021 and highlight an often forgotten group of business owners, while providing valuable knowledge and resources to them,” said Melissa Davidson, assistant director of economic development for York County and the conference planning committee chair. “Whether you are thinking of starting a new home-based business or have operated one for years, this event is for you!”

The Home-Based Business Conference is presented by York County, Williamsburg, James City County, Poquoson, Gloucester, Newport News and Hampton. For more information about the conference, please visit its website or Facebook event.

The Home-Based Business Conference and its related Lunch & Learn Series began as programs of the York County Economic Development Office, in partnership with the York County Chamber of Commerce. County representatives learned that two-thirds of York County’s businesses are home-based, a trend that is growing both locally and nationally. In 2018, all six neighboring localities joined together to co-host the conference and lunch & learn series. This strategic partnership allows these nationally award-winning home-based initiatives to reach and assist more local business owners.
